Boost Converter Circuit Using Mc34063 Ic

The mc34063 is a very useful chip.
Boost converter circuit using mc34063 ic. It requires a minimum number of external components for operation. We can use it as a buck converter a boost converter or an inverter. And this is a classic switch mode power supply using the mc34063 chip to act as a step up or boost converter. The ic mc34063 is contains all the primary circuitry needed for building simple dc dc converters.
The important element of the circuit is boost converter ic. Functional block diagram the reference voltage is set at 1 25 v and is used to set the output voltage of the converter. Ic mc34063a takes an input signal in a range of 3 0v to 40v and gives an adjustable output voltage and output current of up to 1 5a. In the previous tutorials we demonstrated detailed design of 3 7v to 5v boost converter using mc34063 and 12v to 5v buck converter using mc34063 today we will use the same mc34063 ic to build a dc to dc boost converter circuit which can convert small voltage like 3v to higher voltage upto 40v.
The mc34063 was designed to be incorporated in buck boost or voltage inverter converter applications. We have previously built buck converter circuit to step down the voltage. Use ic mc34063 so easy circuit adjustable vr1 for control efficiency at 12v 600ma. A sample mc34063a circuit diagram for buck and boost circuit using the mc3463a ic is shown below.
Mc34063 is most popular switching regulator in such segment. The circuit that i am gonna show here will step up the voltage into 3 different level like 5v 5 3v 6v. A short circuit fault protection circuit is integrated inside chip. Where to use mc34063.
There are also options to limit the output current. So we can use mc34063 ic which is the most popular switching regulator in such applications. All these functions are contained in an 8 pin dip or soic package. Mc34063a is ideal for small projects which need dc to dc converters.
Thus it can function as a step up converter a step down converter and the inverter with a combination of step up or step down function. How to build a square to triangle wave converter circuit how to build a square to sine wave converter circuit how to build a clock circuit with a 555 timer how to build an astable multivibrator circuit with transistors. In the above two circuits the boost converter is designed to convert 12v to 28v with a current rating of 125ma and the buck converter is used to convert 25v to 28v with a current rating of 500ma. A lot of choices available in this segment.
In the previous tutorial we demonstrated detailed design of boost converter using mc34063 where a 3 7v to 5v boost converter was designed here we see how to convert 12v to 5v as we know that exact 5v batteries are not always available and sometimes we need higher voltage and lower voltage at the same time to drive different parts of circuit so we use higher voltage 12v source as the main. Mcp34063 can be configured in three operation buck boost and inverting we use mc34063 as switching boost regulator and will boost 3 7v lithium battery voltage to 5 5v with 500ma output current capabilities. Following circuit is designed to boost input voltage from 5v to 10v using single power supply source.
